Skyecam provides drone-mounted aerial lighting for film, television, music videos, commercials, and live events across Los Angeles and Southern California. Aerial lighting is one of our signature specialties: we fly high-output LED lighting rigs on heavy-lift drones to light scenes, sets, and locations from above — reaching angles and heights a crane or condor simply can’t.
Since 2012, our FAA-licensed team has engineered and flown custom aerial lighting systems for major productions, giving directors and cinematographers a fast, flexible “flying light” that can move, reposition, and follow the action in real time.
What drone aerial lighting is used for
- Night scenes — moonlight, ambient fill, and large-area lighting for exterior night shoots
- Music videos & concerts — dynamic, moving light sources and effects lighting
- Commercials & branded content — clean, controllable overhead light on set or on location
- Hard-to-light locations — deserts, water, rooftops, and remote sites with no rigging options
- Large exteriors — lighting an area far bigger than a traditional crane or balloon light can cover
Why productions choose Skyecam for aerial lighting
FAA-approved for night flight. Aerial lighting is usually night work — and we’re cleared for it. We operate under FAA Part 107 and a Section 333 Exemption, with granted waivers for night flights and advanced operations, so we can legally light your scene after dark, over people, and wherever your shoot needs us.
Custom-built lighting drones. We build and fly our own heavy-lift unmanned aircraft carrying high-output LED lighting rigs, with the payload and flight time to hold the light where you need it. If your scene calls for a specific lighting setup in the air, we can engineer it.
Real credits. Our aerial lighting work spans music videos and productions including Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License,” Big Sean’s “Wolves,” and Watsky’s “What Goes Up,” alongside film, TV, and commercial shoots.
Serving Los Angeles & beyond
Skyecam is based in Hollywood and works throughout the Los Angeles metro — Los Angeles, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Orange County, Ventura, and Santa Barbara — and travels for productions worldwide.
